Автор аргументировано утверждает, что культурологические, политические и исторические объяснения причин возникновения этнических конфликтов всегда ограничены отдельными странами, регионами и историческими периодами и не дают нам теоретического объяснения всемирной распространенности этнических конфликтов. Он также приводит доводы в пользу того, что конечное объяснение корней этнических конфликтов лежит в этническом фаворитизме, расширенной форме семейного фаворитизма.
