That was the year I graduated, and the next year was the year I married. A good job in a local publishing house. In 1971 we had a child, and now he's almost school age. A fine and questing boy with my eyes and her mouth.

I knew strawberry spring had come again when I started home from work last night and had to turn on my headlights against the mist that was already beginning to creep out of the fields and hollows, blurring the lines of the buildings and putting fairy haloes around the street lamps.

This morning's paper says a girl was killed on the New Sharon campus near the Civil War cannons (сегодняшняя утренняя газета сообщает, что в кампусе Нью-Шэрона неподалеку от пушек времен Гражданской войны была убита девушка). She was killed last night (она была убита прошлой ночью) and found in a melting snowbank (и найдена в подтаявшем снежном сугробе). She was not all there (она не вся была там = но нашли ее не целиком).

My wife is upset (моя жена расстроена). She wants to know where I was last night (она хочет знать, где я был прошлым вечером). I can't tell her because I don't remember (я не могу ей сказать, потому что не помню). I remember starting home from work (я помню, как выехал с работы домой), and I remember putting my headlights on to search my way through the lovely creeping fog (и я помню, как включил фары, чтобы найти путь/дорогу сквозь прекрасный/чудесный стелющийся туман), but that's all I remember (но это все, что я помню).

I can hear my wife as I write this, in the next room, crying (я пишу это и слышу, как моя жена плачет в соседней комнате). She thinks I was with another woman last night (она думает, что прошлой ночью я был с другой женщиной).
